Hospitality and technology expert Clio O’Gara has decades of domestic and international experience across Ireland and Europe, not only holding senior titles including General Manager, Brand Manager, Sales and Marketing Director and CMO with international brands such as Hilton International, Accor, Bewleys. Lynch Hotels and Gleneagle Hotel Group etc, but in addition many years’ experience as a trainer and installer of global PMS systems.

From her roles with Softbrands, where she installed PMS systems in over 50 hotels in Ireland and with Guestline, as Country Manager for Ireland, she understands that the secret to success is to be demanding of your technology partners and to choose a best of breed solution that complements your property’s specific needs. She currently strives to bring the best solutions to hoteliers, providing them with the tools to make the right decisions, to assist with managing the guest experience and to improve employee engagement.

Filling vacancies in the competitive hotel industry
Utilising and optimising existing resources
Just as the industry looks forward to returning to some sort of normality following the chaos of the last two years, we find ourselves in the midst of a fresh crisis. The combined forces of Brexit seeing many EU nationals leave the UK, and the fallout of the pandemic, which has driven many hotel workers to look for alternative employment, has left hospitality with an acute staffing shortage. Many operators are having to restrict hours of operation or services offered due to their inability to fill vacancies with demands on existing teams impacting morale and productivity. It’s an untenable situation.
But in an industry still wrestling with highly manual and repetitive processes, all is not lost. With severely depleted teams, the challenge is how to utilise existing resource more effectively by automating mundane tasks that add little value. This coincides with post pandemic, the growth of the digitised guest where the contactless guest experience through self-service technology is both accepted and expected.
Never has our industry been more ready to leverage the power of technology.
