The Central Statistics Office (CSO) Inbound Tourism figures for June 2026 show overall growth of 2%
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (30 July 2026) published Inbound Tourism June 2026.
The Inbound Tourism release is published every month and provides unique and timely insights on visitor trips to Ireland.
Inbound Tourism June 2026 – Key Findings
- Some 670,300 foreign visitors completed a trip to Ireland in June 2026, an increase of 2% when compared with June 2025 and no change compared with June 2024.
- Year-to-date overnight visits by foreign residents were estimated at 3.2 million, an increase of 15% compared with January to June 2025 (2.8 million) and a marginal decline of 0.2% compared with 2024 (3.2 million).
- Foreign visitors who departed Ireland in June 2026 stayed a total of 5.1 million nights in the country, down 1% on June 2025 and up 4% on June 2024.
- The average length of stay for foreign resident overnight visitors was 7.6 nights, down from 7.9 nights in June 2025.
- Visitors from Great Britain accounted for the largest share at 35%, compared with Continental Europe (32%), North America (27%), and the Rest of the World (5%).
- In June 2026, 49% of overnight foreign visitors indicated that the main purpose of their trip was for Holidays, Leisure & Recreation, 27% said it was for visiting Friends & Relatives, and 14% of trips were for Business reasons.
- Expenditure by foreign visitors in June 2026 was estimated at €697 million, up 8% compared with June 2025 (€646 million), and up 2% compared with June 2024 (€684 million).
Commenting on the release, Edward Duffy, Statistician in the Tourism and Travel Division, said:
“The survey results show that just over 670,000 foreign resident visitors completed a trip to Ireland in June 2026, an increase of 2% compared with June 2025 and no change compared with June 2024. The number of nights spent in Ireland by foreign visitors in June was just under 5.1 million nights, down 1% when compared with June 2025 and up 4% compared with June 2024. Year-to-date overnight visits by foreign residents were estimated at 3.2 million, an increase of 15% compared with January to June 2025 (2.8 million) and a marginal decline of 0.2% compared with 2024 (3.2 million).
In June 2026, the greatest number of visitors came from Great Britain (35%), followed by Continental Europe (32%), North America (27%), and the Rest of the World (5%). For the most part visitor numbers rose in June 2026 when compared with June 2025: Great Britain (+5%), Continental Europe (+8%), and Rest of the World (+9%), while visitors from North America fell when compared with June 2025 (-7%). The leading purpose for travel to Ireland in June 2026 was for Holidays, Leisure & Recreation (49%), followed by Visiting Friends & Relatives (27%), and Business trips (14%).
The visitors’ expenditure in Ireland (excluding fares) was €697 million in June 2026. Visitors from North America accounted for €273 million (39%), Continental Europe for €244 million (35%), Great Britain for €135 million (19%), and visitors from the Rest of the World for €45 million (6%). Taken together, this represented an increase of 8% when compared with June 2025, and a rise of 2% when compared with June 2024.”
