Irish-Designed ‘Iconic V‘ smart water stations deliver measurable environmental savings across Fingal
Ecofil has today announced that more than one million single-use plastic bottles have been prevented from entering landfill and the environment across Fingal, following the rollout of its Irish-designed Iconic V smart bottle filling stations throughout the county.
Delivered in partnership with Fingal County Council, the network of refill stations has been installed across parks, public spaces and community locations since January 2025, providing free access to drinking water while delivering measurable environmental impact.
Smart refill network delivers strong public engagement
The Iconic V, designed and manufactured in Ireland by Ecofil, is a next-generation water refill station that combines robust design with smart technology. Each unit captures live usage data, allowing both Ecofil and Fingal County Council to monitor performance, track environmental savings, and manage maintenance efficiently across the network.
Usage across the county has been strong, with high levels of public engagement recorded at locations including Millennium Park (97,251 bottles saved), Waterville (70,509), Ardgillan Demesne (66,993), and Tyrrelstown Park (58,713).
Peter Wynne, Director of Ecofil, said:
“Reaching one million bottles saved is a significant milestone and demonstrates the real impact that well-designed public infrastructure can have. Iconic V was developed and manufactured here in Ireland to provide a practical, long-term solution to single-use plastic waste. We are very encouraged to see such strong engagement from communities across Fingal.”
Cllr Tom O’Leary, Mayor of Fingal, said:
“This milestone reflects Fingal County Council’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing single-use plastics. The response from the public has been extremely positive, and we will continue to expand the network of refill stations across the county to build on this success.”
The rollout highlights the increasing role of smart infrastructure in helping local authorities meet sustainability and climate targets. By combining real-time data with durable, low-maintenance design, the Iconic V system ensures each installation delivers both environmental and operational value.
Ecofil, part of the ERG Group, an organisation recognised on multiple occasions at the National Green Awards for innovation and environmental impact, is responsible for the design, manufacture, installation, and ongoing support of the stations.
Ecofil confirms expansion into hospitality and commercial offices
Building on this success, Ecofil has confirmed that it will expand its product range this summer, with the launch of new water solutions tailored for the hospitality sector and commercial office environments, further extending its sustainable offering beyond public spaces.
Fingal County Council continues to expand the network, with further installations planned as part of its commitment to reducing plastic waste and enhancing public amenities.
