Nespresso challenged artists under 16 to design a nature-inspired image for a limited-edition recycling bag.

Nespresso has announced Sarah Browne, aged 10 and student of Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire, Dublin 1 as the winner of its Under 16’s Recycling Week Competition.

Nespresso set the challenge for budding artists under the age of 16 to create a design inspired by nature, which would be placed on their recycling bags for a limited-edition run. The artwork was to be original while also encouraging people to recycle.

In recognition of her winning design, Nespresso has made a £2,500 donation to Sarah’s school and her winning artwork will be placed on Nespresso’s recycling bags from early January.

When asked about her inspiration behind the design, Sarah commented:

“I love nature and like to recycle. I got my inspiration from photos of our green planet, and my favourite flowers are daisies and lavender, they are blue because I couldn’t use purple! I like the way you can see the whole earth and the flowers in my picture.”

Dan Cohen, Customer Care and Services Director said:

“It was wonderful to see the variety of designs and the enthusiasm for supporting Nespresso’s recycling scheme. It was difficult to decide but Sarah’s bright and colourful design and catchy message really stood out. We hope this will help inspire everyone of all ages and highlight just how simple it is to recycle our coffee pods.”

The competition was held as part of Recycling Week when Nespresso aims to raise awareness about the ease and importance of recycling Nespresso capsules. In Ireland, capsules can be returned directly to Nespresso boutiques, by using the AnPost Click & Post service or by arranging a home collection.
