Sysco Ireland is set to deliver 3,500 food boxes to families to help tackle food poverty this winter

Sysco Ireland colleagues in Dublin have come together to pack and distribute food boxes, filled with food staples and treats, to 10 charities across the region.

Sysco Purpose Month, which was first rolled-out in 2023, will see colleagues across the company’s major sites in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Belfast, volunteer to pack and deliver more than 3,500 food boxes to 42 employee-nominated charities as part of the company’s global Purpose Month initiative.

As well as national charities such as The Simon Community and SVP, Dublin based Ronald McDonald House, will benefit from the initiative which is aimed at helping to alleviate food poverty as the colder weather kicks in.

Speaking on the annual initiative Martina O’Donnell, HR Director, Sysco Ireland, said;

“Purpose Month remains incredibly close to the hearts of everyone at Sysco Ireland and now in its third year, it reflects the collective commitment of our colleagues across the country to live our purpose of Connecting the World to Share Food and Care for One Another.

“At a time when charities are under more pressure than ever, we are proud to play our part in supporting communities, and in particular to help those which have been nominated by our colleagues.”

Joe Kenny, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland said,

“At Ronald McDonald House, we support 20 families every night who are facing the unimaginable challenge of having a seriously ill child in hospital. We believe that when a child is sick, the whole family is affected. The Purpose Month food boxes help ease some of that burden by ensuring families have one less worry during an incredibly stressful time.

“This thoughtful initiative allows parents to focus on caring for their child while feeling supported by the wider community. We are deeply grateful to Sysco for helping us keep families close when they need it most.”

The boxes will be delivered to the nominated charities throughout November with families receiving the boxes throughout the month of December.
