Glas Restaurant announces Summer Tasting Event

Glas Head Chef Malte Half and his team are to showcase Irish produce at a special Summer Tasting Event at the Chatham Street restaurant on June 18th, 2024.

‘We change our menus all the time because we just want to serve the freshest, most local seasonal produce we can find,’ Malte says. ‘That’s why Irish fruit and Irish veg are always the stars of the show at Glas.’

Glas has been at the forefront of promoting Irish food since it opened in 2019 and has gone from strength to strength under the stewardship of Half – who is a vegan himself and very focused on sustainable food and farming.

The SUMMER TASTING EVENING is on Tuesday, June 18th at Glas Restaurant and will present a stunning seven-course menu – with a wide range of ingredients and flavours. The idea behind Glas was never to create ‘meat substitutes’ but just to make fruit and veg the main items on your plate. As Malte says, you don’t have to be vegetarian or vegan to love vegetables – or vegetarian food or vegan food.

There will also be optional wine pairing at the event. This is in tandem with Glas’s growing reputation for its eclectic wine list – as well, of course, as its unique and very special cocktail menu and its really interesting selection of craft beers.

‘Eating plant-based food doesn’t mean you can’t have a few glasses of exceptional wine or a cocktail or three,’ Malte jokes.

On a more serious note, Malte cares deeply about food and its provenance – particularly in an Irish context.

‘Sustainability isn’t just a throwaway phrase for us,’ Malte says. ‘It’s a very serious concept linked to climate change, our planet, how we eat and how we live. This ‘green approach’ to eating can now longer be considered a choice or a luxury, lifestyle decision; it’s something we all have to embrace – and we have to do it now. And there is no better place than Ireland with its amazing range of food and the very best artisan producers across the country.’

The Chef’s Summer Tasting Event is on Tuesday, June 18th. The cost is seven courses for €60. Special wine pairing is also available for €32pp
