The culinary landscape of Dublin just got more exciting with the opening of Okky, Ireland’s first ever Okonomiyaki restaurant. Located at 8 Aungier Street, Dublin 2, Okky is the latest venture from John Ennis and the team behind the popular Lucky Tortoise. The innovative Japanese street food eatery offers dine-in and takeout options with no bookings necessary, and is open from 12 PM until late, seven days a week. They also have a lunch time Bento Box that offers Okky and three sides for a great value price of €12.

Okky is short for Okonomiyaki, a savoury Japanese pancake made primarily from cabbage, and cooked to perfection in an open kitchen. Head chef Leslie Haru Kohatsu brings her family’s Gyoza recipe to the menu, alongside other Japanese favourites like Tamagoyaki, rice, and traditional Japanese salads. To complement the food, Okky also serves wine on tap from Winelab.

John Ennis, the co-owner of Okky, shared his enthusiasm for introducing Okonomiyaki to the Irish food scene, saying, “Having lived in Japan and Korea for three years, Okonomiyaki was by far my favourite dish to eat.” He added, “Our most popular dish at Lucky Tortoise over the years has been Okonomiyaki, so it made sense to give it its own restaurant.”

Okky aims to deliver Japanese food in a fun and exciting way, with a focus on high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. “The base ingredient of Okonomiyaki is cabbage, and we are blessed with lots of high-quality cabbage producers in Ireland,” said Ennis. The restaurant currently offers vegetarian and gluten-free options, with vegan options coming soon.
