The Galmont Hotel & Spa in Galway has launched Ireland’s first autonomous retail store incorporating advanced age estimation technology, marking a significant innovation in guest services within the Irish hospitality sector.
24-Hour Convenience for Modern Hotel Guests
Delivered in partnership with Mercury Retail Services, part of Johnston Fitout Group, the new on-site store offers guests a fully automated, 24-hour retail experience. The solution enables seamless, cashier-free transactions, allowing visitors to purchase drinks, snacks, and travel essentials at any time—particularly enhancing convenience for late arrivals and overnight stays.The Galmont Hotel & Spa
Age Estimation Technology Supports Compliance
The introduction of age estimation technology ensures compliance when purchasing age-restricted products, while maintaining a smooth and efficient user experience. This innovation positions The Galmont Hotel & Spa at the forefront of smart hospitality, responding to the expectations of modern, digitally connected travellers.
Beyond guest convenience, the autonomous store delivers operational advantages. The system supports continuous monitoring and incorporates enhanced loss-prevention measures, reducing reliance on customer-facing staff while maintaining high service standards.
The project reflects a collaborative approach, with Johnston Shopfit leading the physical fitout and execution, alongside Swedish technology partners HonestBox and MILLIMETRE DESIGN, who developed the store’s innovative concept and user experience.
