
The Dublin festival, celebrating night time in the City centre is reflecting an improvement in the image of the area, a survey has found.
The annual Dublin by Night Fest, showcasing the best of the City centre’s night-time economy, took place on Dame Street, College Green and Capel Street on November 1.
A Red C survey undertaken on the night found 78% of those questioned said the event improved their perception of the area.And perceptions around safety at the street-based, free open-air event are strong, the data shows. Only one per-cent said an increased Garda presence was required.
The festival is jointly organised by business collective Dublin Town, Dublin City Council, Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport. It is supported by An Garda Síochána.
Record Crowds and Strong Public Support
Attractions included live outdoor performances, street animation, arts and culture installations, market stalls from local businesses, food offerings from Dublin’s top restaurants and cafes, and cookery demonstrations by renowned Dublin chefs.
The survey was conducted among 225 adults who formed part of an unprecedented crowd of 80,000 at the third annual event. In 2024, Dublin by Night Fest attracted 40,000 across two nights.
Dublin by Night Fest 2025 recorded an 82% overall satisfaction rating, with 95% of those questioned saying the event should continue.
Almost half of attendees questioned visited the City centre specifically for the festival, while 42% were from outside Dublin. Ninety-four per-cent said Dublin by Night Fest influenced the timing of their visit to the City Centre.
“Dublin by Night Fest has become more than just a source of entertainment, it serves as a catalyst for tourism, elevates the City’s cultural profile, and creates a strong sense of community pride,” said Dublin Town CEO, Richard Guiney.
“It has achieved wide awareness and strong satisfaction, and its momentum is clear. People love the experience, and want it to continue on a bigger stage, according to our Red C survey.”
The event marked the start of Fáilte Ireland’s Winter in Dublin programme, which highlights authentically Dublin events happening from November to January.
Dublin Retains Prestigious Purple Flag Status
This year’s Dublin by Night Fest, celebrated the city retaining the prestigious Purple Flag – presented to cities with consistently vibrant, family friendly nightlife, following a completive campaign process driven by Dublin Town.
A Purple Flag is an award for reaching a standard of excellence in the evening and night time economy through a diverse cultural offering which is non-alcohol dependent, family friendly, safe and vibrant.
Dublin is one of 40 European cities to hold a Purple Flag, a status it has held since 2013. It is awarded for two years.
