Since the partnership began in 2021, Caffè Nero’s efforts have prevented nearly 57,000 kilograms of CO₂e emissions
Premium coffeehouse, Caffè Nero Ireland, has saved more than 21,000 meals from going to waste through its partnership with Too Good To Go, the world’s largest marketplace for surplus food. This partnership is one of several ways the coffee house brand is cutting food waste and operating more sustainably across its 23 locations nationwide.
Since the partnership began in September 2021, Caffè Nero’s efforts have prevented nearly 57,000 kilograms of CO₂e emissions – the equivalent of saving millions of litres of water and avoiding the use of valuable land and energy resources.
Irish customers have embraced the initiative. More than 8,000 people have collected Caffè Nero Surprise Bags through the free to download Too Good To Go app, and most say they plan to return. The most engaged group has been customers aged between 26 and 36, a clear sign of growing interest in simple, sustainable choices.
Martin Groundwater, Head of Operations at Caffè Nero in Ireland, said,
“It’s inspiring to see how such a simple partnership can create real impact. Every Caffè Nero Surprise Bag rescued means good food enjoyed instead of wasted – and that’s something our teams and customers can feel proud of. Together, we’re proving that small actions really do make a big difference.”
Machaela O’Leary, Sales Manager at Too Good To Go Ireland, said:
“The Too Good To Go partnership with Caffè Nero Ireland is a fantastic example of how businesses and communities can tackle food waste together. By rescuing thousands of Caffè Nero Surprise Bags through the Too Good To Go app, Irish customers are helping prevent CO₂ emissions, save resources, and enjoy quality food that would otherwise go to waste. It’s inspiring to see such strong local engagement with this initiative.”
