United Airlines inspires girls to pursue careers in aviation by opening the doors to their operation at Dublin Airport
To celebrate Girls in Aviation Day, United Airlines has offered an unforgettable experience to 27 girls through a tour of its operations at Dublin Airport, showcasing the endless career opportunities available in the aviation sector. The second-year students were selected from St David’s College, Artane, a mixed secondary school in Dublin.
On this special day, hosted by United Airlines and Dublin Airport, participants had the opportunity to learn about what happens behind the scenes at the airport. The girls enjoyed an airport tour, taking in the fire station and other operational areas. Their excitement grew as they watched a United plane land on the main runway and stepped on board a state-of-the-art United Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, marvelling at the scale and complexity of the operation.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity to visit the cockpit, as well as hear from inspiring women leaders, from United pilots to United’s Cargo division, who shared their career stories and invaluable advice, sparking a sense of possibility and empowerment in the group.
“Aviation is one of the most exciting industries you can work in,” said Roger Berry, General Manager Dublin, United Airlines.
“This initiative is all about inspiring the next generation of aviation leaders by increasing their interest in STEM careers, providing them with role models and showcasing the wide range of careers available in aviation. It was just fantastic to see their enthusiasm on full display throughout the action-packed day at Dublin Airport.”
“We’re delighted to support United Airlines in showcasing the world of opportunities in aviation to young women,” said Kenny Jacobs, daa CEO.
“Days like this show that aviation isn’t just about flying. It’s about engineering, logistics, innovation and leadership. If we want more women in these roles tomorrow, we need to spark that interest today. daa is proud to play our part in that journey.”
Since 2016, uIMPACT, United Airlines’ Business Resource Group for empowering women and their allies, has partnered with Women in Aviation International (WAI), a nonprofit organisation dedicated to inspiring women and girls to pursue careers in aviation and aerospace. Thanks to this partnership, United has organised events, such as the one held in Dublin to impact girls and motivate them to pursue careers in the airline industry.
