Family Fun at Feile Samhain at Hook Lighthouse
A fun-filled Samhain weekend is in store for families visiting Hook Lighthouse this Halloween. Throughout the day on Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October 31st there is a host of traditional Samhain fun planned.
Families are encouraged to arrive in full Halloween costume as there are prizes for the themed family costume collective from 12 to 2 pm daily and a prize for the best child’s costume. There is an all-day Pumpkin painting with the Hook Lighthouse resident artist Rose (€3 and €5) plus there are free games on the lawns including family Tug o’ War with parents v children, musical statues with some frights added for good measure and some stocks where those who may have committed some crimes this year can be publically punished with some soft sponges! Plus the graveyard of 1,000 ships treasure hunt.
The Hook Lighthouse Café will be open from 9.30-5 pm daily serving all the usual favourites and the outdoor Café will be serving snacks and hot chocolate.
Guided tours of the ancient lighthouse are also back on offer and these will be available every 30minutes from 10 am – 5 pm. These award-winning tours offer visitors an insight into the 800 years of lighthouse keeping at the oldest operational lighthouse in the world.
