Aloft Dublin City cuts carbon footprint by 40% in just one year
Aloft Dublin City, the four-star hotel in the heart of the Liberties, has achieved a 40% reduction in its carbon footprint, marking a milestone this Earth Day that was originally set as a four-year target but reached within just one year, in collaboration with CARDI ENERGY.
Rapid progress through energy optimisation and sustainable operations
This reduction has been driven by targeted energy optimisation, more efficient day-to-day operations, and a shift towards more sustainable suppliers across the hotel.
The achievement forms part of Aloft’s ongoing response to climate change and its commitment to advancing sustainability within the hospitality sector. A holder of the prestigious Green Key certification for environmental and social responsibility, the hotel continues to integrate sustainable practices into its daily operations, with initiatives spanning zero waste to landfill, 100% clean energy, and active community engagement.
From power supply to bathroom products, sustainability is considered across all areas of the hotel. Ecolabel-certified laundry detergents are used, linen deliveries are fully plastic-free, and the hotel maintains its zero waste to landfill ethos, with waste tracking currently being digitised to further optimise recycling practices.
From community action to guest engagement: sustainability in practice

The Aloft team also participates in a monthly community clean-up to support the local Dublin 8 area, working alongside neighbouring Liberties businesses. Its bottle return scheme supports the Little Flower Charity, ensuring meaningful, ongoing engagement with the local community.
Guests are invited to play a role in these efforts through a collaboration with the Dripdrop initiative, where a tree is planted for every umbrella borrowed or rented from the hotel. To date, this has resulted in over 4,300 trees planted by Aloft guests.
Maintaining its Pinergy 100% clean energy certification, the hotel continues to explore new ways to reduce its environmental impact while supporting the local community.
Speaking on the hotel’s climate action targets, Roderick Vastenburg, General Manager of Aloft Dublin City, said,
‘At Aloft, sustainability is something we take seriously every day. Hospitality and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Our goal is to look after our guests while also taking care of the planet. We’re proud to mark this progress this Earth Day, and to continue building on it year-round.’
