The Wilder Townhouse’s One Key award signifies ‘a very special stay’
Boutique luxury hotel The Wilder Townhouse in Dublin is celebrating being a MICHELIN Key holder for a second consecutive year as The MICHELIN Guide announced its top honours for British and Irish hotels at a global awards ceremony held in Paris.
Only introduced for the first time last October, the prestigious guide’s One, Two and Three Key distinctions are similar to the MICHELIN Stars awarded to restaurants – only being given to the most outstanding hotels in the UK and Ireland.
Owners of The Wilder Townhouse Frankie and Josephine Whelehan were two of the 300 hoteliers from around the world invited as guests to the awards ceremony at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
Frankie said:
“We are genuinely delighted to be one of the first hotels in Ireland that was awarded the new MICHELIN Key awards when they were introduced last October. To have gone on to retain that honour for another year is a real credit to our talented and dedicated team who work tirelessly to ensure every guest enjoys a comfortable and characterful stay at a property that is as unique as Dublin itself and its history.”
Dating all the way back to 1839, the grand Victorian building on Adelaide Road housed retired governesses whilst standing watch over the Dublin of Oscar Wilde and W.B Yeats. It opened as The Wilder Townhouse in 2018 following a €9.5 million refurbishment by Frankie and Jo who lovingly restored and transformed it into a bold, comfortable, and contemporary city chic townhouse of unserious sophistication.

MICHELIN Keys reward high standards and unique destinations. They are given as a result of visits from anonymous inspectors who make their decision based on a property’s: unique character, excellence in architecture and interior design, quality of service and comfort, and consistency between the quality of the experience and the price paid.
The Wilder Townhouse’s One Key award signifies ‘a very special stay’, and the 42-bedroom property is described in the guide as somewhere that “splits the difference between country-house chill and urban boutique-hotel style”.
The Wilder is all about the thoughtful details; exclusive residents’ only bar and breakfast room; daily newspapers, a 24-hour reception, evening turndown service, and a friendly, knowledgeable team who help guests to feel right at home in the heart of Dublin.
In addition to its One MICHELIN Key, it is Ireland’s only property to make it into the holy trinity of hospitality guides: Mr & Mrs Smith, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and Ireland’s Blue Book.
