The 2025 Glas Awards celebrate micro businesses in County Waterford that are making a conscious effort to bring green principles into their business.
The Hat Maker hotel in Dungarvan has scooped one of the top awards at the 2025 Glas Awards in association with Waterford City and County Council taking the prize for Green SME of the Year.
The awards, which took place on Thursday 9th October at The Garden Room, Waterford Treasures, are open to those between 11 – 50 employees, recognising and celebrating micro businesses in County Waterford that are making a conscious effort to bring green principles into their business.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be named Green SME of the Year.” said David Burke, owner of The Hat Maker. “Sustainability is at the forefront of what we want to do here while also preserving this beautiful building. This award is a recognition of that commitment, and we’re incredibly proud to share it with our team and community.”
The Hat Maker Hotel opened its doors earlier this year, making this achievement even more impressive. The building which was once where hats were expertly made, is now a stunning 16-bedroom boutique hotel run by husband-and-wife team Rebecca Queally and David Burke, that champions the handmade with contemporary comforts and has a particularly vibrant and appealing aesthetic. It also achieved an A2 rating, ensuring sustainable reuse of this historic building in the town centre.
