Celebrating three years as renewable energy partner to the Galway International Arts Festival, Flogas solar energy will be powering the much-loved Festival Garden, making its hugely anticipated comeback in 2022. John Crumlish, CEO, Galway International Arts Festival and Ken O’Byrne, commercial director, Flogas Ireland were at the opening.
A celebratory chilled out space with great food, dazzling cocktails and drinks, occasional DJs and live sets, the Flogas solar-powered garden is open from 10 am to 11 pm in Eyre Square from 11 – 24 July. Visitors can also check out the Flogas stand for festival freebies.
And, through the process of micro-generation, any unused electricity generated by the Flogas solar energy panels in the Garden will be fed back into the grid for use elsewhere throughout the festival.
Ken O’Byrne, commercial director for Flogas, said: “It’s our third year as energy partner for the Galway International Arts Festival and we can already feel the excitement building. Congratulations to Festival CEO John Crumlish, artistic director Paul Fahy and their teams for the incredible work they’ve put into this world-class event, we’re delighted to be supporting them all the way.”
Flogas has teamed up with Galway Bay FM, one of the festival’s media partners, to give away Heineken® Big Top tickets to see The Pixies, Jon Hopkins, The Stunning, The Flaming Lips and The Frames. Flogas is also sponsoring the station’s daily festival previews, highlights, on-street vox pop and round up reports.
There’s also a Flogas powered cooking demo with TV chef Jeeny Maltese at the award-winning An Púcán Bar in Forster Street on 14th July.
Flogas and Brite Mobility have once again saddled up to deliver a larger fleet of festival e-wheels. Organisers, artists, accredited staff and ticketholders can now zip around Galway city free of charge on thirty-five carbon-neutral e-bikes during the festival run.
John Crumlish, GIAF CEO, said: “GIAF is very committed to reducing its impact on the environment and our partnership with Flogas is key to allowing us make the kind of changes we want to make. It’s a big challenge and Flogas have been hugely helpful in terms of support and helping develop innovative energy solutions with us.”
