Eamonn Casey Appointed General Manager of 5* Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa

Powerscourt Hotel Resort Spa has recently appointed a new award-winning General Manager, Eamonn Casey.

A seasoned hotelier with a hospitality career spanning almost 20 years, Casey brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role.  Eamonn is a graduate of Shannon College of Hotel Management, with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in International Hospitality Management & Business Studies.

Prior to Graduating from Shannon College, Eamonn was selected to join the Marriott Graduate Development programme in 2003. After completing his college training, he began his hotel career working at various Marriott Properties in London, climbing the managerial ladder within the Food & Beverage division.  In 2007, Casey’s talent was recognised with a Caterer & Hotel Keeper “Acorn Award”, these long-established awards recognise the “Top 30 hospitality professionals under 30” and presented annually by the Caterer Magazine in the UK. In 2010, Eamonn returned to Ireland to take-up a position as Director of Food & Beverage and Front of House Manager with 5* Shelbourne Dublin and in 2016 he took on his first General Management position with flagship property 5* The Westin, Dublin.

John Lally, Partner, MHL Collection, said: “We are thrilled to have Eamonn as General Manager of the prestigious Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa. With his drive and passion for hospitality we are excited about the future of the resort and the amazing team under his leadership.”

Born in Dublin, Casey was attracted into the industry at a school going age, where he gained his first taste of working in hospitality whilst completing a work experience programme in secondary school.  Having enjoyed the role immensely and his enthusiasm encouraged by several managers with whom he was working with, he soon developed aspirations to manage his own hotel one day, making his decision to study Hospitality an easy one.

In his new role as General Manager at Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa, and as the international traveller returns Eamonn is eager to make his mark at the estate, enhancing the luxury experience for guests, supporting the talented team, and ensuring the hotel offers a uniquely luxurious destination in the Garden of Ireland.  He is also hoping to attract new staff members onboard, with exciting career opportunities available, he expects to entice those longing to escape the hectic city environments in favour of rolling hills and fresh air.

“In the short time I have been at Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa I have had the pleasure to meet with the truly passionate hotel leadership team. Although hospitality professionals can rarely work remotely, a property as unique as Powerscourt presents exceptional employment opportunities in a beautiful environment.   We are also working on some incredible projects completing several significant sustainability initiatives (Solar Power/ Biomass Heating / Enhanced Recycling) and committed to achieving carbon neutrality in addition to enhanced environmental sustainability this year. I am excited to take on this important responsibility and I look forward to supporting the hotel team to achieve this milestone. Exceptional hotels are continually evolving and improving, and I know that there will be several exciting projects ahead” said General Manager, Eamonn Casey.

Eamonn is delighted to be able to ‘give back’ to Shannon College, an institution that he holds in high esteem, and later this year as he takes on the role of President of the Shannon College Alumni. During his two-year term he will lead a programme of activities to enhance the network of over 3000 Shannon College Graduates.  As representative of the College Alumni, Casey will promote careers in hospitality to second level students whilst also supporting new graduates by fostering a mentorship programme alongside professional networking.

With any new job, Eamonn’s work life is hectic, but he manages to find some spare time to indulge his passion for travel.  In the past few years Eamonn has embraced the “staycation”, allowing him to explore parts of Ireland that he hadn’t visited before. He is also happy to be able to re-discover the magic of Co. Wicklow and relish in one of Ireland’s most treasured tourist destinations and celebrate the revival of the country’s important tourism industry.
