Sligo Park Hotel treats Adventure Tourism delegates to a North West adventure

Industry leaders from across the country flocked to the Sligo Park Hotel for the annual Irish Association of Adventure Tourism (IAAT) conference.

The event featured a keynote speech from Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin, as well as contributions from the CEO of the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation, Eoghan O’Mara Walsh, and representatives from Fáilte Ireland.

And the hotel, Sligo’s top-rated hotel on TripAdvisor, did it bit for Sligo. Delegates were treated to a range of outdoor activities in association with Adventure Sligo, with guided hikes, surfing, and kayaking all available to those who wished to sample Sligo’s famous outdoors.

Other speakers at last week’s event included Joan Mulloy, a Mayo sailor aiming to become the first Irish person to complete the Vendee Globe, a solo round-the-world race known as ‘The Everest of the Seas’, and Andy Kilpatrick, a motivational speaker and mountaineer who has scaled El Capitan in California’s Yosemite National Park more than 20 times.

General Manager of the Sligo Park Hotel Gerard Moore was delighted with the success of the IAAT conference, adding that Sligo’s flourishing reputation as a hotspot for adventure tourism made it the obvious choice to serve as hosts.

“We were delighted to welcome the Irish Association of Adventure Tourism. There’s no better place to host such an event than Sligo, a county on the Wild Atlantic Way and famed for its wide variety of outdoor activities, in the mountains or on the sea,” he said.

“Many national and local providers attended. On Wednesday, we worked with our partners at Adventure Sligo to provide delegates with a range of outdoor experiences, including a hike up Knocknarea, surfing in Strandhill, outdoor yoga and kayaking on Lough Gill.

“We followed this with a full conference on Thursday when we were delighted to welcome Minister for Sport and Tourism Catherine Martin, Fáilte Ireland Chairman Paul Carty and CEO of the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation, Eoghan O’Mara Walsh. We were also thrilled to welcome Paul Taylor, Chairman of Sligo County Council, as well as  a keynote speech from Joan Mulloy, one of Ireland’s most accomplished young sailors.”
