Ashford Castle, Ireland’s premier 5* hotel, has just launched a series of exclusive experiences at Squire Danagher’s, the original house featured in the ‘The Quiet Man,’ starring Maureen O’Hara and John Wayne, filmed in the 1950s.

The house, which has recently been lovingly restored back to its 1951 self, offers guests a unique opportunity to take a step back in time to a different era, to a time when Hollywood discovered Ashford and Cong for the first time.  Guests will enjoy private use of the authentic house, the residence of Squire Will Danagher and his sister Mary Kate in the movie, as well as choosing from traditional dishes and entertainment including acting performances, Irish dancing or Gaelic storytellers.

Movie buffs and history fans will truly enjoy this immersive experience but it’s also perfect for couples, families, groups of friends, a corporate event or any special occasion with a number of different experiences on offer for small and large groups.

The house features hidden gems such as its own Guinness tap so guests can enjoy a welcome reception with ‘pour your own Guinness’ followed by what is sure to be a memorable dining experience with dishes including Connemara smoked salmon, traditional Irish lamb neck stew or scallop and salmon carpaccio and slow-braised Martin Jennings’ beef and Guinness stew. Each of these options are accompanied by two glasses of Bouchard Finlayson Blanc de Mer or Hannibal and followed by delicious traditional desserts such as homemade apple pie and sherry trifle. Prices for a group of 10 start at €3,150 and includes exclusive use of the cottage.

If you’re entertaining a larger group of 30 upwards, you can avail of a Guinness, wine or champagne cocktail reception with a selection of delicious canapés. Prices for a group of 30 start at €3,000.

Why not bring the experience to life even more with amazing entertainment options available on request*? Surprise your guests with a traditional Irish dancing performance, a trad group, a traditional Gaelic storyteller or even a stunning rendition by Quiet Man actors – it will really take the experience to another level.

The beautiful Ashford estate and surrounding village of Cong exude culture and history and the addition of the traditional 1950s Squire Danagher’s house will really make you feel like you’re on the old movie set for which the area is famed.
