Flogas partners Up with GIAF for Mirror Pavilion 2021

Flogas Ireland and the Galway International Arts Festival (GIAF) have again partnered up for the second part of Irish artist John Gerrard’s award-winning Mirror Pavilion project. The mesmerising ‘Mirror Pavilion, Leaf Work, (Derrigimlagh) 2020 can be seen in the spectacular 4,000-year-old Derrigimlagh Bog in Connemara throughout the Festival’s run from 28th August to 18th September 2021.

Once again, this year, the Mirror Pavilion project is powered by renewable energy sources supplied by Flogas Ireland as the Festival’s Energy Partner. The successful collaboration for the 2020 GIAF won both partners the Award for ‘Best Use of Creativity in the Community’ at this year’s Business to Arts Awards.

Mirror Pavilion by John Gerrard was commissioned by Galway International Arts Festival for Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture. The first part of the project entitled ‘Mirror Pavilion, Corn Work’, premiered on Claddagh Quay in Galway during last year’s Festival and attracted over 120,000 visitors.

John Rooney, managing director, Flogas Ireland, said, “We’re extremely proud of our ongoing energy partnership with the Galway International Arts Festival on the Mirror Pavilion project. We will continue to aid the festival’s ongoing transformation into a carbon neutral event. Its commitment to sustainability mirrors our own commitment towards delivering sustainable electricity, Natural Gas and LPG to homes and businesses in Ireland.”

In addition, our ongoing partnership with Flogas is hugely important to the organisation’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. Becoming more sustainable in what we do is a key goal for the organisation and Flogas, who themselves are committed to delivering sustainable energy, are a great partner in helping us achieve this.”

Flogas also teamed up with Galway firm Brite Mobility to offer free electric bike trips on dedicated e-bikes to organisers, artists, accredited staff, volunteers and ticketholders for the run of the festival. Twenty Flogas branded zero carbon electric bikes will be based at Brite’s five central locations for handy zipping around Galway city.

“Thanks to the incredible hard work behind the scenes by festival CEO John Crumlish and his team, there are many exciting, must-see events on the calendar for all to enjoy. We are very pleased to team up with Brite Mobility to offer all those associated with this year’s festival a chance to enjoy free e-bike trips and make the most of this world-famous event,” continued John Rooney.

GIAF 2021 features exciting live, in-person arts experiences across theatre, music and visual arts, as well as a wide range of in-person conversations in the 2021 edition of First Thought Talks. Keeping the connection with those who may not be able to attend in person, GIAF 2021 includes an enhanced digital element, with several live streams and view on demand events.

Flogas is one of Ireland’s fastest growing energy providers for natural gas, renewable electricity and LPG, with close to150,000 residential and commercial customers on the island of Ireland. Flogas also launched a carbon offsetting solution for commercial customers in 2020, allowing them to offset 100% of their carbon emissions by investing in gold standard climate protection projects.
