The Brehon Hotel & Spa has raised €2,850 for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation through a closest-to-the-pin golf simulator challenge held as part of Jack & Jill’s Power Hour fundraiser with Today FM.

The donation will help fund up to 143 hours of nursing care and respite for Jack & Jill families across Ireland.

The closest-to-the-pin challenge

The charity event took place at PAR 72, The Brehon’s state-of-the-art TrackMan golf simulator. Guests arrived from 9.30am for tea, coffee and light refreshments before taking their turn at the challenge. Among those who came along to show their support were Kerry GAA legends both past and present including Gavin White, Paudie Clifford and Eoin Brosnan, alongside members of the local community and The Brehon team.

The closest-to-the-pin challenge gave each participant five shots from the tee, with their best shot counting towards their final result. For the event, the team selected the 16th hole at Adare Manor, ahead of the Ryder Cup coming to Adare Manor in September 2027. The par-three hole plays across the River Maigue to Ireland’s second-longest green.

The closest to the pin on the day was John Morley, who won an overnight stay in a Heritage Bedroom at The Brehon, along with dinner for two.

The idea came about when members of The Brehon team were listening to Today FM and heard about Ian Dempsey’s golf-themed Power Hour. With PAR 72 located on site at the hotel, the team saw a natural opportunity to get involved and decided to host their own golf challenge in support of the fundraiser.

The morning raised an impressive €1,425, which was generously doubled by Directors Eamon and John O’Donoghue, bringing the final donation to €2,850.

Speaking after the event, General Manager Neil Grant said:

“Jack & Jill does vital work for families across Ireland, and we were delighted to play our part in Power Hour. Thank you to everyone who came along and gave so generously, as well as to Ian and the Today FM team for having me on air. PAR 72 has been such a great addition to the hotel since it opened, and it was brilliant to see it being put to use for such a worthwhile cause.”
