The historic North Kerry town of Listowel long famed for its literary geniuses, food production and culinary delights comes alive this week for one of Ireland’s longest running food fairs, the forthcoming 2023 Listowel Food Fair.

The Listowel Food Fair is delighted to announce Dublin based Chef, TV Host and Author Mark Moriarty to be the recipient of the ‘2023 Listowel Food Fair Book of the Year Award’ with his debut cookbook – ‘Flavour – Everyday Food Made Exceptional’ published by Gill Books. Mark Moriarty was presented with a specially designed crystal vase by Niall Geoghan of Tipperary Crystal to recognise this remarkable debut achievement.

Featuring one hundred delicious and achievable recipes, Mark Moriarty brings us through the basics we need to elevate everyday meals into something special. From Ratatouille Tart to Lamb Shank Hot Pot and Herb-Crusted Cod to an Eton Mess with Strawberries and Basil – these are the foods we all know, made better. Split into easy/digestible sections, ‘Flavour’ is the culmination of fifteen years working in professional kitchens. Mark brings restaurant know-how into the kitchen, teaching us how to pack ordinary dishes so full of flavour, they’re impossible to resist.

Speaking on the announcement Listowel Food Fair Chairman and Former Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture for Food and Rural Development, Jimmy Deenihan said:

“On behalf of Listowel Food Fair we are delighted to announce the 2023 Listowel Food Fair Book of the Year to be ‘Flavour – Everyday Food Made Exceptional’ by Mark Moriarty. We introduced the ‘Listowel Food Fair Food Book of the Year Award” in 2008, in recognition of Listowel’s long literary and food production tradition. Mark Moriarty’s debut book has been selected by our judging panel because of its creative and accessible recipes, its design and photography and its emphasis on traditional ingredients with a modern application. ‘Flavour – Everyday Food Made Exceptional’ is a wonderful publication and I would like to congratulate Mark Moriarty on this great achievement.”
