Key Tourism Asks within Programme for Government
The ITIC has issued their tourism asks for the Programme for Government. Ruth Andrews, Chairperson of ITIC, said “The tourism industry is the economic lifeblood of regional Ireland and the impact of Covid-19 has been devastating. The incoming Government must deliver a multi-million euro support package for the tourism industry otherwise businesses will go under and the tourism product that has served Ireland so well for so long will be massively diminished”.

Eoghan O’Mara Walsh, CEO of ITIC, called for an Economic Ministry dedicated to Tourism and he said “The sector is simply too important to Ireland with 265,000 people working in the industry. We expect no international visitation this year so Government must intervene to stabilise the industry. Regional Ireland in particular from Killarney to Westport to Waterford needs a viable tourism industry and debt forbearance, business survival grants and a reduced Vat rate are desperately needed in the next Programme for Government”
