Imagine Arts Festival To Proceed This October

The organiser’s of the 2020 Imagine Arts Festival are hard at work reimagining the layout and programme for the festival to proceed and take place in a safe manner for all of the artists and volunteers involved along with the audience members.

It is planned that the annual unique celebration of the arts will take place at venues across Waterford City from October 16th to 25th 2020.

Speaking of the festival plans and current work Festival Manager Nora Boland says, “We are living in uncertain times for all arts events and especially for festivals but we are delighted to announce that Imagine - Waterford’s Arts Festival is going ahead this year. We are working with the details from the HSA and planning a festival with parameters of safety in order to ensure every possibility of the festival proceeding fully. Waterford is suffering a great loss in its festival calendar this year and we know that the 2020 Imagine festival will offer lots of colour and light for people this October.”

The festival organisers are also putting out an open call to commission new works for the festival this year. This open call is for local performing artists to send the festival team proposals for their works and the festival will be in a position to grant-aid three works for the 2020 programme. Suggestions and ideas are welcome to form a broad variety of the arts including from theatre people, dancers, circus and multidisciplinary groups and of the three selected one will be offered a real commission for the 2021 festival.

Festival Manager Nora Boland explains, “We would love to hear from local arts people interested in creating a piece of work for the 2020 festival programme. We will aim to facilitate them to make their ideas a reality. It is really important during this period that we find ways to support local artists and we would encourage all others to do the same including the local business community. The Arts are so important for the public’s well being and Waterford has been so well served over the years by their artistic community and anyway now that we can return our gratitude or give artists a platform is so important at this stage.”

For artists interested in submitting a proposal please email imaginefestofficial@gmail.com for further details. Imagine Arts Festival would like to thank Waterford City and County Council and the Arts Council for their continued support.
