Ashford Castle Goes Green For St. Patrick's Day

Ashford Castle, the only hotel in Ireland to have earned a Five-Star Forbes Travel Guide Ranking will be lighting up green this St. Patrick’s Day, as part of a ‘Green Tuesday’ initiative with Tourism Ireland.

The annual initiative will see Ashford Castle join a selection of the most renowned landmarks, buildings and statues all around the world that will light up green on 17th March to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day together on a global scale.

General Manager, Niall Rochford, said: “Lighting the castle green has become something of an annual tradition at Ashford Castle. It’s something we take huge pride in and are honoured to be among the world’s most iconic buildings selected by Tourism Ireland to turn green on St. Patrick’s Day.”

Irish movie screening

Ashford Castle will be showcasing its Irish credentials to guests during their stay with multiple St. Patrick’s Day touchpoints. These include an Irish-themed movie series in the hotel’s 32-seater cinema while enjoying complimentary popcorn and sweets for the ultimate cinema experience. From 14th – 17th March, guests can enjoy any one of the more than 15 movies that will be screened in the castle including the iconic The Quiet Man, which was filmed in Cong, home to the iconic hotel.

Island of the Devout Foreigner

For those looking to toast the big day, Ashford Castle’s senior bartender has created a speciality cocktail that is traditionally Irish, but with a contemporary twist. Inchagoill, which consists of Glendalough Irish Gin, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, Midori, sorrel lemonade and pasteurised egg white, means ‘island of the devout foreigner’. And of course, there’ll be Guinness on tap, Irish whiskeys and even red lemonade (a childhood Irish peculiarity) for those seeking the traditional tipple.

In February, Forbes Travel Guide announced its Star Rating winners for 2020 and for the first time ever, an Irish hotel achieved a Five-Star ranking in the annual honours list, the top rating possible.

Ashford Castle has joined an elite group of fewer than 300 luxury hotels around the world that have earned a Five-Star Forbes Travel Guide (FTG) ranking.

Ashford Castle is set in a 350-acre estate and is part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection. It has 83 rooms and suites, together with a hideaway cottage. The hotel reopened to guests in April 2015 after a two-year renovation and restoration programme.
