Sligo Winner Of Bord Bia Just Ask Restaurant of the Month
Waterfront House & Restaurant, Enniscrone, Co Sligo has been awarded Just Ask Restaurant of the Month for August. Selected by renowned food writer Georgina Campbell and Bord Bia, the Just Ask Restaurant of the Month rewards eateries across Ireland that exhibit best practices in showing transparency in the sourcing of the food on their menus.
Located across from Enniscrone’s famous beach and a couple of doors from the even more famous Kilcullen’s Seaweed Baths, Waterfront House & Restaurant came into new ownership in March 2018, with hoteliers Jason Horkan & Daniel Mayr taking over at the helm. The busy restaurant is the focal point of the hotel and it has become the go-to place for locals and visitors alike.
Speaking about their suppliers and producers, co-owner Jason Horkan said, “Our local suppliers are very important to us and our story. We love to promote them on our menus and as much as we can on our social media and website.
McHale Meats of Castlebar supply us with our beef and pork comes from Andarl Farm near Claremorris. Garvin Seafoods of Ballina supply us with fresh fish and our dairy producers are based both in Co. Sligo and throughout the country. Falcon Fruits in Ballina and Kilglass Organic Gardens supply us with our fresh fruit and vegetables and we’re also proud to support a wide number of Irish craft beer and spirits producers, such as Reel Deel Brewery, Crossmolina and Connacht Distillery in Ballina.’’
Georgina Campbell commented, “Given the exceptional location, this is a place that could easily coast and it’s greatly to the credit of the team that genuine hospitality, great local food and good value are it’s USPs. Menus leaning towards seafood and steak have a strong sense of seasonality and local provenance and there’s a fascinating Artisan Producers Map on display in the restaurant and via the website.”
