Donegal’s Lough Eske Castle Launches Tempting “Midweek Gourmet Getaway” Break

Calling all food enthusiasts…. Donegal’s only five star hotel Lough Eske Castle, has just launched their new “Midweek Gourmet Getaway” to tempt you to the North West this summer. The Midweek Gourmet Getaway package is designed with foodies in mind who wish to come to Donegal, kick back and enjoy world class cuisine in a beautiful setting.

The package starts off with a tempting “Floral Afternoon Tea” for two in one of the castles regal drawing rooms, and features savory delights such as beef pastrami, pickled cucumber and horseradish focaccia sandwiches, and mouth-watering sweet treats such as Orange Blossom financiers, Hibiscus panna cotta, blackberry and violet gel, and traditional house made scones with Irish clotted cream and strawberry jam complimented by a tea of choice.

Gourmands will taste the best of Donegal in Cedars Restaurant on one evening, where a three-course menu will tickle their taste buds. The newly launched summer menu at Lough Eske Castle features flavoursome dishes such as Donegal crab with apple, avocado and green goddess dressing begin, new main course dishes such as roast Irish rump of lamb, sweet bread, artichoke, pea, hazelnut and mint, finished with decadent desserts such as the signature strawberry, vanilla and pistachio macaron.

The castle recently welcomed two new award-winning chefs, Andrew and Richard McKee, to their kitchen, and they have been working hard on a new seasonal menu, which was inspired by local, fresh and seasonal produce.

Speaking of the changes Head Chef Richard McKee says; “Guests will see the changes in the menu with a different style of cooking and lighter options influenced by international styles from the Nordic and Asian regions in time for the summer season.”

Richard’s younger brother Andrew acts as Head Pastry Chef at the hotel and the new summer dessert menu is bound to please those with a sweet tooth. It includes delights such as the signature strawberry, vanilla and pistachio macaron, and a Donegal Silkie whiskey infused crème brûlée accompanied by a malt cracker.
