Tourism Ireland creates giant human shamrock in London
A giant human shamrock – created by dancers and members of the Irish community in London – appeared in central London Wednesday, 13 March, ahead of the city’s St Patrick’s celebrations. Tourism Ireland arranged for more than 200 people (and a dog!) to do some Irish dancing and then move into formation as one giant shamrock, in Trafalgar Square!
Julie Wakley, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Britain, said: “St Patrick’s Day traditionally marks the real start of the tourism season for us; our aim is to bring a s
mile to the faces of Londoners and to convey the message that Ireland offers the warmest of welcomes and great fun, as well as wonderful scenery and heritage.
“Tourism Ireland is delighted to support the St Patrick’s Festival in London, celebrating the unique and close relationship between Britain and Ireland. We’re inviting Londoners to ‘fill their hearts with Ireland’ – with the wonderful Irish food, music and cultural activities that are part of the Mayor of London’s St Patrick’s Festival or, even better, they can take a flight or ferry and experience all these activities for themselves on the island of Ireland itself!”
