Castleknock's Beatrice O’Donoghue Wins IHF Dublin Employee Of The Year Award
Beatrice O’ Donoghue from Castleknock, Dublin and receptionist / part of front of house team at Sandymount Hotel has been named the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) Dublin Employee of the Year. The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) began rolling out the Branch Employee of the Year awards scheme to celebrate and recognise exceptional employees who make an outstanding contribution to their workplace. Over 60,000 people are employed by hotels and guesthouses across the country in all areas of operations including food and beverage; catering; accommodation services; reception; leisure centre and spa; facility management; sales and marketing; human resources; IT; management and finance.
Beatrice began working at family owned Sandymount Hotel 37 year’s ago, back when the hotel was under the leadership of current day owner John Loughran’s parent’s George and Rosaleen Loughran. Joining with a role at reception, Beatrice excelled at the job and quickly became a household name. With a passion for the role and a love for the Loughran family, Beatrice still brings the same work ethic and heartfelt welcome to the hotel. Humbled by her win, Beatrice said: “I am truly honoured, not only to have been nominated for the award by the hotel’s father and son duo John and Gerard Loughran, but to have won is such an achievement. Since day one at the hotel, I truly felt part of the wider family, learning tricks of the trade from John’s mother Mrs Loughran and meeting all kinds of local, international and well-known guests over the years. It’s my home from home, it hasn’t felt like 37 years and I hope that I’ll be behind the desk and welcoming guests for many more years to come”.
Peter Collins, Chair of the Dublin Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation said: “Dublin is renowned the world over for our excellent hospitality product and this does not come about by accident. It is down to the thousands of talented and passionate people who work in our industry, making our visitors and guests feel truly welcome. Our annual Employee of the Year award helps shine a light on the positive contribution made by employees throughout the hotels sector and we were impressed by the very high calibre of nominations received this year.” “We are delighted to present this year’s award to Beatrice O’ Donoghue from Sandymount Hotel in recognition of her outstanding commitment and work ethic, sense of team spirit and willingness to go that extra mile to assist guests.” Beatrice now goes forward to represent Dublin at the Irish Hotels Federation National Awards where the national winner will be awarded the overall title at a special ceremony next March 2019. Under the IHF award scheme, each hotel and guesthouse are invited to nominate one employee for their local branch award. An independent judging panel comprising representatives of local Institutes of Technology (IT), or Education and Training Boards (ETBs), as well as members from other IHF branches is responsible for reviewing the nominees and selecting the overall winner.
