David Joyce Crowned Winner Of European Chef’s Cup In Barcelona

Irish chef David Joyce has been named Best European Chef for 2018. The competition saw seven professional chefs go head to head in Barcelona in an exclusive competition of European chefs. Now in its third year, the European Chefs’ Cup is a gastronomic competition held by Aramark, one of the leading worldwide catering companies.

The tough culinary competition brought together some of the best culinary talent on the continent including Ireland, Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium / Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Denmark and Spain to whip up the finest dishes possible.

Each of the 7 participating Chefs had to create a three-course menu from a pre-selected shopping basket. All candidates had four hours to complete and present their dishes. The judging panel comprised of some of the most experienced and respected professionals in the world of culinary arts. They included Carlos Fernández, Chef from Martin Berasategui’s Team; (Berasategui holds 8 Michelin Stars in total for his three restaurants in Barcelona, Tenerife and San Sebastian) Luca Rodi, 2015 Top Chef Finalist and Óscar Teixidó, Culinary Coordinator at the School of Hospitality, Barcelona (CETT).

Irish chef David Joyce was crowned winner of the competition in the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona while second place was awarded to UK Chef Stefano Corrias, and Spanish Chef, Javier Artero, achieved third place.

On winning the coveted title David Joyce said “It’s been an incredible experience and I knew going into this competition that I would be competing against some the best chefs Europe has to offer. I couldn't have succeeded here today without the continued education and support from all of my colleagues and, in particular, my mentors Ross Lewis and Derek Reilly.”

Congratulating David on his win Derek Reilly, Culinary Director, Aramark Ireland said “We’re extremely proud of David; he displayed such skill, passion and determination to produce exceptional dishes. He worked so hard in the months lead up to the competition, not only with the Aramark Culinary team, but also Ross Lewis of Chapter One. It’s a truly outstanding achievement!”
