Glenlo Abbey Hotel, Galway is delighted to announce that seasoned hotelier Colin Brown has being appointed as General Manager. With over 10 years in the hospitality industry, Dublin native Colin Brown has made his mark on both the Irish and UK hotel scene.

A graduate of Hotel Management at Shannon, Colin spent his formative training years in hotels in London holding various managerial positions with the prestigious Red Carnation Hotel Group. In 2013 Colin returned to Ireland and took-up a position as Rooms Division Manager at Dylan Dublin. Most recently, Colin was Hotel Manager at The Lodge at Ashford Castle from 2014. During his tenure at The Lodge at Ashford Castle it won many awards, most currently: 2017 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards - Voted No. 2 in the Top 10 Hotels in Ireland, Restaurant Association of Ireland Awards – Wild’s Restaurant Awarded Best Hotel Restaurant in Connaught, Irish Hotel Awards – Voted Best Fine Dining Hotel of the Year, Irish Hotel Awards – Voted Best Romantic Hotel of the Year, and named in the John and Sally McKenna’s Guide and TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards – Voted No. 25 Top Hotel in Ireland.

“With an impressive depth of hotel management experience, we are delighted to have Colin take the leadership reins at Glenlo Abbey Hotel. We are certain, that under his excellent stewardship, the hotel will continue to flourish,” said John & Marie Lally, owners.

Hailing from Killiney, Co. Dublin, Colin was seduced by the hotel scene at the tender age of 13, when he began to work alongside his mother, who used to bring him to work at the Herbert Park Hotel where she worked as a contract room attendant. From there he worked at two local pubs, where he began to develop his passion for customer service and food & beverage organisation. Not one to shy away from hard work, Colin took the lead from his father who instilled a strong work ethic, which he follows today. This young exposure to the hospitality industry made Colin’s decision to study at the Shannon College of Hotel Management an easy one. With this goal in mind, he decided to move away from Dublin and focus on his career, moving away from home at the tender age 18.

Aiming to build on and continue the outstanding passion and enthusiasm within the team at Glenlo, which essentially forms the backbone of Glenlo Abbey Hotel, he said “I want the hotel to be recognised locally, nationally and internationally as one of the finest 5* hotels in Ireland and want guests to have the best personal service experience possible. With a multi-million extension and refurbishment plan coming together with the backing of our committed owners, John & Marie Lally, and the continued support from our MHL Hotel Group, Glenlo Abbey is set to become one of the finest 5 Star Estates in Ireland” said Colin Brown, General Manager.

A food and wine enthusiast, Colin is fascinated by the outstanding array of local and organic produce available. He is passionate not only about the industry but the local area in which he resides. He is looking forward to exploring the wonderful Galway countryside and exploring new ideas and concepts. Being an avid car and driving enthusiast, the nearby Connemara landscape will certainly be a major draw, and loving all sport, will be certain to catch the odd Connaught Rugby or Galway hurling and football match, when he take time out!
