Lough Erne Resort Chef wins Northern Ireland Young Chef of the Year


Lough Erne Resort is delighted to announce that Mark Winter, Sous Chef at the five-star hotel, won ‘Northern Ireland Young Chef of the Year’ at IFEX Belfast 2018, Northern Ireland’s premier food, drink, retail and hospitality event.

‘Northern Ireland Young Chef of the Year’ is part of IFEX’s renowned Salon Culinaire which attracts chefs with all levels of experience and raises the bar in terms of culinary excellence in Northern Ireland.

To win the competition, the 23-year-old from Richhill in Co. Armagh had to prepare and serve his own gourmet three-course meal for two covers comprising starter, main course and dessert while being scrutinised by an independent panel of judges.

His hard work paid off and his exciting and unique style impressed the judges, winning the award over stiff competition from young chefs from some of Northern Ireland’s top food establishments.

Commenting on the award, William Kirby, General Manager at Lough Erne Resort, said: “We are delighted that Mark is bringing this award back to Lough Erne Resort. Despite his tender years, Mark is a valued member of our renowned culinary team. Everything this young chef serves up is top class and, with the excellent tutelage of Executive Chef, Noel McMeel, we have no doubt this is only the start of a very bright future for Mark.”

The other four finalists were Cameron Ashcroft from The River Room at Galgorm Resort & Spa; Daniel Rainey from SERC; Jonathan Clarke from The Holestone; and Max Buller from Molly’s Mill. All entrants had to be under 23 years of age to enter.
