86% Of Irish SMEs Plan To Purchase Corporate Gifts This Christmas
The popularity of corporate gifting among Irish SMEs is set to grow this festive season, with 86% planning to purchase presents for clients, up 4% year-on-year, according to new research by Musgrave MarketPlace.
The study was carried out among 830 Irish SMEs as part of its ‘Christmas Made’ campaign which aims to make Christmas a hassle-free experience for SMEs with a range of gifting options available in-branch and online.

Choosing the perfect gift for clients is the most stressful part of corporate gifting according to SMEs
Enhancing Client Relationships
Highlighting the importance of strong SME and client relations, almost all those surveyed (92%) send gifts to strengthen relationships with their clients. When asked how much they intend to spend per client this Christmas, 1 in 3 stated €40 - €50 and 27% choose more expensive gifts to show their appreciation, spending €60 - €100. Before making a purchase, almost a third (31%) of SMEs would consider how social media worthy the gift is so as to increase the likelihood of picture perfect posts by their clients.
Stresses Associated with Corporate Gifting
Finding a gift that’s suitable is the most stressful part of the process for 42%, up 5% from 2016. Almost 1 in 5 consider organising the delivery of gifts a difficult task while 17% think it can be overly time consuming. The high costs associated with purchasing gifts is a concern for 15% of SMEs while 7% say finding somewhere to buy the right gifts is the most difficult part of the seasonal activity.

Chocolates were considered the best gift to give by 9% of respondents while just 3% would opt for candles. When questioned on timings for sending corporate gifts, early to mid-December was the most popular period to ensure gifts are received in advance of office closures.
