Trips To Ireland Increased By 1.7% For The Period June - August 2017
In the period June - August 2017, the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 1.7% to 3,141,800 - an overall increase of 53,800 compared to the same period twelve months earlier. Trips by residents of Great Britain decreased by 7.5% to 1,047,300 while trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 2.4% to 1,122,200. Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 13.3% to 756,500 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 12.5% to 215,700.
The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residentsduring the period June - August 2017 increased by 9.6% to 2,584,600. See tables 1 and 2.
The total number of trips (Irish residents’ trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period June - August 2017 increased by 5.2% to 5,726,400 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier. In the eight months to the end of August 2017, the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 2.5% when compared with the same period in 2016. Irish residents' trips overseas during the same period increased by 8.7%.
