Canadian Travellers To Read All About The Island of Ireland

A group of top travel writers from Canada is enjoying a fact-finding visit in Ireland’s Ancient East and Northern Ireland this week, as guests of Tourism Ireland, Fáilte Ireland and Tourism NI.

PIC SHOWS: Top Canadian travel writers at Castle Leslie Estate in Monaghan, with Jocelyn Black, Tourism Ireland (back, second left); and Ellen Redmond, Fáilte Ireland (back, right).

The writers – representing a number of Canadian media outlets, including the Toronto Sun newspaper – have been checking out some of the many things to see and do here for Canadian holidaymakers. Their itinerary includes a fun culinary class at Ballyknocken House in Co Wicklow, the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre, the Hill of Tara and the Cooley Peninsula. The group will also enjoy a Game of Thrones Experience in Castle Ward and will have the chance to experience Culture Night tomorrow (Friday, 22 September) in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter.

Dana Welch, Tourism Ireland’s Manager in Canada, said: “We were delighted to invite these influential travel writers to visit Ireland’s Ancient East and Northern Ireland – helping us to spread the good news about the island of Ireland through the media in Canada. The journalists have been really impressed by our spectacular scenery, the range of things to see and do, as well as by the friendliness of the people they met. I am confident that their visit will result in lots of positive publicity for the island of Ireland.”

Tourism Ireland is rolling out an extensive programme of promotions in Canada this autumn – which includes co-operative promotions with key airline and tour operator partners, email marketing and social media promotions, as well as online advertising on popular websites. And, our publicity programme in Canada this year will generate positive coverage for the island of Ireland worth more than €7.5 million.
