AA Notable Wine List Award For Ashford Castle
Ashford Castle has added yet another accolade to its iconic name having this month been awarded the AA Notable Wine List Award for 2017. The George V Dining Room at Ashford Castle was selected from thousands of entrants across the UK and Ireland to be commended with the coveted award – one of only 238 establishments across the two isles.
For centuries the Wine Cellars of Ashford Castle have housed some of the world’s finest wines and today, guests can choose from an impressive selection of over 750 wines including the exclusive Bouchard Finlayson collection from South Africa. The boutique vineyard, situated on the outskirts of Cape Town, is widely regarded as one of South Africa’s finest wine estates and is owned by the Tollman family of Red Carnation Hotels.
Head Sommelier, Philip Dunne and the expert sommelier team work closely with Executive Chef, Philippe Farineau to curate an unforgettable food and wine experience for guests at the George V, and indeed throughout the hotel.
As part of its winning criteria for the Notable Wine List Award, the AA sought properties which housed a range of grapes, countries and styles, as well as wines from the best individual growers and vintages. Award winners demonstrated a distinct passion for wine and a commitment to offering guests the very best pairings to complement their dining experience.
Commenting on the latest award, General Manager Mr Niall Rochford said: “Here at Ashford Castle, we are passionate about creating the best possible experience for our guests – from our accommodation to activities to dining. Our unique Wine Cellars offer guests the chance to taste grapes and blends from all over the world – some which won’t be found anywhere else in Ireland – and we are truly delighted to receive the AA Notable Wine List Award for 2017. Great food should be complemented with great wine and I would like to commend Philip Dunne, our Head Sommelier and Philippe Farineau, our Executive Chef for delivering a truly special food and wine experience as recognised by the AA.”
