Canadian Connection For Ireland!

A group of top Canadian travel agents is visiting the island of Ireland this week. They flew to Dublin from Halifax in Nova Scotia, on the seasonal ASL Airlines flight and are here as guests of Tourism Ireland, Tourism NI and Fáilte Ireland. During their time here, the group celebrated Canada Day (on 1 July), marking the country's 150th birthday.

The group is here on a fact-finding visit, to sample at first-hand the superb experiences on offer for Canadian holidaymakers around the island of Ireland. The aim is to really enthuse them about Ireland, so that when they return home they will be even better informed to advise their clients when planning and booking their holidays.

Following a packed itinerary, the group visited Glasnevin Cemetery Museum, Kylemore Abbey and Glen Keen Farm & Visitor Centre, in Mayo. They also enjoyed tours of Titanic Belfast, the Giant's Causeway and the Ulster American Folk Park.

It’s also an excellent opportunity to highlight the direct ASL Airlines flight from Halifax to Dublin to these travel professionals.”

2016 was the best year ever for Irish tourism from Canada – with visitor numbers increasing by +16% over 2015. We have also seen very good growth in visitor numbers from North America so far again this year, with the most recent CSO figures for January to May showing an increase of +23.6% – an extra 126,700 US and Canadian visitors compared with the same five-month period last year.

Tourism Ireland is undertaking an extensive programme of promotions throughout 2017, to ensure that growth continues. A key element of that programme includes working with the influential Canadian travel trade.
