An Ireland’s Ancient East Hola for Spanish Media

A group of Spanish journalists have arrived today in Cork Airport on an Iberia Express flight from Madrid, to find out what the Ireland's Ancient East region can offer Spanish visitors when they arrive at the gateway to the South of Ireland. Hosted by Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland, the group of online and print media, with a total circulation of over 3.5 million, will experience first-hand why Ireland truly is one of Europe’s ‘must-visit’ destinations.

It is hoped that these summer services from Madrid to Cork will open up lots of opportunities for Spanish tourists to see for themselves what Ireland’s Ancient East and the Wild Atlantic Way has to offer. For the travelling media on this trip, a bespoke itinerary was put together by Fáilte Ireland for the group on things to see and do on this occasion in Ireland’s Ancient East. They will visit Cobh and take the Titanic Experience tour and explore Mitchelstown Cave ahead of enjoying the sights and history in counties Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and Tipperary. Ciara Sugrue, Head of International Publicity with Fáilte Ireland welcomed the group to Ireland and said:

“Cork Airport is a gateway to the south of Ireland and we plan on showcasing the stunning the rich heritage of Irelands Ancient East to these influential Spanish media. New routes into Cork Airport - such as the Iberia Express service - provide visitors with an opportunity to arrive directly to experience the strong choices offered in the region. Regional Airports are key to opening up improved access throughout the country whilst sustaining and distributing economic gain to the regions.”.......“This press trip will provide fantastic exposure for Cork and we are seeking to capitalise on the summer Iberia Express service into Ireland by showcasing what visitors can do once they touch down at Cork Airport. “

Cork Airport's Head of Communications Kevin Cullinane said: "We are delighted to welcome our Spanish Media visitors, who have flown with our airline partner, Iberia Express. The additional connectivity and frequency of Iberia Express’ Madrid ' service, means that we have ample opportunity to showcase all that the South of Ireland has to offer. The route to and from the Spanish capital operates twice weekly, every Saturday and Wednesday commencing on June 18th and will fly right through the summer months until September, making it a perfect option for short or long stay breaks in mainland Spain"....."Given our position at the start of Ireland's Ancient East, those touching down here at Cork Airport can begin their adventure into our unique history, heritage and culture as soon as they land.”
