Summer Season of Chef Swaps at Aniar Restaurant, Galway, Ireland | #ChefSwap

Aniar kicks off the summer season of Chef Swap on Friday and Saturday the 23rd and 24th of June with Syrco Bakker (pictured), a rising star of Dutch cuisine and chef at Michelin star Pure C restaurant. Syrco will be joining Aniar chef-patron JP McMahon in the Aniar kitchen to collaborate on creating a choice of five-, eight- and ten-course menus which represent both restaurants, both countries and both chefs.

The Chef Swap at Aniar programme sees acclaimed guest chefs working alongside JP McMahon in Michelin starred Aniar in Galway, Ireland, on different dates throughout 2017. JP said, “"The purpose of Chef Swap at Aniar is to bring different chefs to Aniar in order to showcase their food and philosophy. To date the chefs that have visited have been very well received. Each chef has had different styles but the experience for the diner has been undoubtedly memorable on each occasion.”

Friday and Saturday the 28th and 29th of July will welcome Portuguese chef Alexandre Silva from Lisbon Michelin star restaurant Loco. JP recently returned from a stint working with Silva in his restaurant. JP said, “The quality of Portuguese seafood and products is amazing. The food at Loco is very similar to Anair. At both restaurants we try to find the best seasonal and wild products. I thought doing a Chef Swap with Alexandre would be a marriage made in heaven. Diners can expect food entirely made out of Irish ingredients, but with an Iberian flair.”

Belgian Michelin star chef Benoit Dewitte of Restaurant Benoit Dewitte in Ghent, Belgium, will join the Aniar kitchen team on Friday and Saturday the 11th and 12th of August. Each Chef Swap special sitting has had waiting lists, so diners are urged to book early. The Chef Swap menu format aligns with the regular Aniar menu in terms of courses and price - 10 courses at 110 euro (or with wine pairing 170 euro); eight courses for 85 euro (without wine pairing); and five courses for 55 euro (without wine pairing).

Chef Swap launched in February and a very successful spring season saw Michelin star chefs Ross Lewis (Chapter One, Dublin), Sasu Laukkonen (Chef & Sommelier, Helsinki) and Nathan Outlaw (Outlaw’s at The Capital, London; Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen, Cornwall, UK) take part. Chef Swap at Aniar will also run in the autumn, with Michelin star chefs Daniel Burns of Brooklyn restaurant Luksus|Tørst and Adam Reid of The French in Manchester already confirmed.

Aniar is located at 53 Lower Dominick Street, Galway, Ireland, and is open for dinner on Tuesday to Saturday and for lunch on Saturday.
