Family Fun At Westport Food Festival
There’s plenty on the menu for families and children at Westport Food Festival (23-25 June 2017). There are workshops and tours, a fabulous new ‘fast food race’ and of course the Fairgreen Food Village which is fun for everyone. There’s also a full programme of (free) demonstrations from top chefs like Stephan Matz, Michael Heneghan and Bare Necessities.so everyone gets a chance to learn. Demonstrations start at 12 noon with Stephan Matz.
The Fairgreen Food Village is in full swing from 12 noon with the new addition of a marquee for demonstrations and workshops. The market will feature an outstanding selection of stalls with food and drink to take home with you or eat on the spot. You’ll see some old favourites and some new kids on the block too. Expect some interesting lunch options! Bring the shopping basket – it’s a great chance to stock the larder with delicious goodies.
Children’s Cupcake Decorating (1.15pm)
Well known TV chef Catherine Leyden will lead this fun cupcake decorating workshop which takes place at the Fairgreen Food Village. It’s a chance for little ones to explore their creative side and see what masterpieces they can produce. All the equipment is provided, just book and turn up for some fabulous decorating fun. It takes place on Saturday 24th June at 1.15pm in the Food Village Marquee. Booking is through www.eventbrite.ie.
Fast Food Race (2.15pm)
It’s fast as in speed – whacky obstacle races against the clock as children balance food on a plate while negotiating the challenges. Entry is free and on the day. Separate races will be run for different age groups. It takes place on Saturday 24th June at 2.15pm.
Pizza Making Masterclass (3.15pm)
Children from 3-12 years can become mini-chefs at this Pizza-making-master-class in the new setting of the Fairgreen Food Village. It’s a hands-on workshop experience under the watchful eye of Eoin McDonnell, head chef from the Wyatt Hotel. Kids get totally absorbed in making their own Pizza. They do everything from stretching out the base to assembling the most artistic and elegant of toppings before taking the masterpiece home to cook. It’s amazing to see the wide eyes of a 6 year old as their very own work of culinary art comes out of the oven. The best bit of course is cutting it up and tasting the fruits of their labour – sharing with parents is optional! It takes place on Saturday 24th June at 3.15pm in the Food Village Marquee. Booking is through www.eventbrite.ie.
The two foraging events are suitable for children as well as adults. Will Williams is the expert guide to fungi and mushrooms on Saturday morning, and to the bounty of the seashore on Sunday. Learn identification techniques and points to watch out for when collecting them. Mushroom Foraging is on Saturday 24th June at 10am and Seaweed Foraging on Sunday 25th June at 11.30am. Booking for both is through www.eventbrite.ie.
Midsummer Banquet The last few tickets are still available for the Midsummer Banquet which takes place on Friday night, 23rd June. It will feature a seven course tasting menu with three wine pairings from Cabot’s of Westport. Needless to say it’s a black tie event – in perfect keeping with the stylish surroundings. Numbers are strictly limited to 120 guests and tickets, costing €100 each, are available from Hotel Westport (098 25122).
