B&B of the Year Award Goes Springview Farmhouse in Urlingford, Co Kilkenny

The winner of Ireland’s B&B of the Year is Springview Farmhouse in Urlingford, Co Kilkenny. The announcement was made in Dublin last week at the AGM of B&B Ireland in the Ashling Hotel. Springview Farmhouse B&B is owned and run by the Joyce family. Reacting to their win, Eileen Joyce said she was “absolutely thrilled to have received the award for ‘B&B of the Year’.... "I would like to thank my guests for their lovely reviews and B&B Ireland for the recognition this award gives to us and our Farmhouse”.

B&B Ireland is the only national body representing the B&B sector on the island of Ireland. Their booking numbers increased by 15% in 2016, with revenue rising 19% to over €9m. Chief Executive Helena Healy said the awards are run to “acknowledge the fantastic work B&Bs are delivering to guests all around the country.” “B&B’s are usually run by just one or two people, yet they make a huge contribution to their local economies, particularly by attracting overseas visitors into rural areas. Our awards are based on measuring the visitors experience. The reviews these B&Bs have received is testament to the exceptional service and experience they are delivering to their guests’.” Assessment for the award was based on reviews received in 2016 from those that booked and stayed through B&B Ireland. Helena Healy said almost 50 B&Bs gained a top 10 out of 10 score from the reviews, and the best nine of these were then chosen as finalists (see full list below). The winner was selected by an independent expert from Customer Service Excellence Ireland “based on exceptional reviews - a B&B that went over and beyond for their guests”. Adjudicator Charlie Boyle from Customer Service Excellence Ireland, said it wasn’t easy to choose a winner because they had all received such positive comments from guests. “ “In the end, we decided that the Joyce family and Springview Farmhouse B&B were the winners based on the depth and length of the praise given by those guests who took time to comment on their stay,” said Charlie. “Springview Farmhouse epitomizes all that is within the core values of an excellent Irish Bed and Breakfast...and them some more that they add themselves in a most warm and hospitable way.” The awards are sponsored by Waterford Crystal and the winner received a Waterford Crystal Vase engraved with the title of ‘2017 B&B of the Year’.
