European Federation of Periodontology Chooses Dublin for 2020 Gathering
Fáilte Ireland today confirmed that Dublin is set to receive a significant revenue boost of almost €1.3million as the European Federation of Periodontology confirmed it would hold its March 2020 Masterclass Conference in the RDS, Dublin. Fáilte Ireland’s Dublin Convention Bureau worked with the Irish Society of Periodontology to pitch and bid to bring the event to Dublin. (See editor’s notes for more on Periodontology). The Federation’s European event, which attracts over 800 international delegates, will welcome attendees from 30 national scientific societies devoted to promoting research, education and awareness of periodontal science and practice. The Federation represents more than 14,000 periodontists and gum-health professionals from Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle East.
Welcoming the news, Paul Kelly, CEO of Fáilte Ireland said: “Fáilte Ireland is focussed on significantly increasing delegates and revenue from the lucrative conferencing sector and we are delighted with the news that Dublin has secured another high profile conference. Last year was a record year for business tourism in Dublin as we confirmed €60m worth of new meetings for the city. This year, our Dublin Convention Bureau team is targeting 5% growth. Already, we have confirmed approximately €24 million of new business for the capital, and are fully committed to securing more wins throughout 2017.”
This latest win follows a number of high profile international events which have already been confirmed for Dublin this year including:
Velo City Conference to be held in 2019 at The Confence Centre Dublin (CCD) delivering 2,000 delegates worth €3.2m
EUROk Conference to be held in 2019 at UCD delivering 2,000 delegates worth €3.2m
EuroHeartCare Conference to be held in 2018 at Trinity College delivering 500 delegates worth €800k
The Irish Society of Periodontology under the Chairmanship of Dr Declan Corcoran made the bid for this most recent win at the recent Annual General Conference of the European Federation of Periodontology in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Dr Corcoran today emphasised: “It’s a testament to the standing in which Ireland is held in Europe, that we have been granted this prestigious conference. It will bring together specialists from all over the world to discuss the latest techniques and advances in Periodontology….We have been greatly assisted in our bid by the Dublin Convention Bureau, an arm of Failte Ireland, who helped us portray Dublin and Ireland as a most suitable and welcoming venue. They guided us through the whole process of the bid to its completion. The Dublin Convention Bureau have ties with all the major international conference organisers and that gave us great confidence in addressing our colleagues in Santiago de Compestella.”
Additionally, Fáilte Ireland’s Dublin Convention Bureau picked up a prestigious award in Chicago last week. HelmsBriscoe, a global company with over 1,300 meeting planners in 55 countries, gave the accolade of “International Destination Partner of the Year” to Dublin Convention Bureau after a vote by their planners at their annual business conference. The award was in recognition of the strength of the meetings product here, the ease of doing business and the appeal of the destination.
